Big Chill

Big Chill was ACE! We had such a good time. I left my house at 8am to pick Adam, Marie-Claire, Abi and Kat up for a little drive to the Chill. It was a very lovely morning. But the morning turned into the afternoon, we still weren’t there and we were on at 2:45. Due to all sorts of complications with guests not being allowed on site at the same entrance as artists (bit silly that) Marie-Claire and I didn’t get to the Paradiso tent until 2:15pm. I was sweaty, I had no make up on and was hot and irritable, had half an hour to sort myself out and sound check. Dom had a little test of the water, left me alone for a bit and then gave me a glass of red wine. Its like he’s known me all my life. Then I was fine! The set was ace. The sound was MASSIVE. I’ve never done a gig with such incredible sound before and i found it all very joyous. All or Nothing in particular was very exciting.

Now, when I get excited about something I start to feel my chest burning and bubbles of joy trying to claw their way out of my belly, up my esophagus and get ready to burst out of my mouth. I deal with this large influx of excitement by making a funny noise with my voice and rubbing my knuckles together really quickly whilst running up the stairs. Now because when we are playing All or Nothing I am normally singing and there are no stairs insight I haven’t quite managed to work out how to handle it all. Im working on channelling it through to my vocals but because all I want to do is scream and run in circles its actually really bloody hard to sing through it! Ill learn Im sure. At the moment Im really enjoying the fact that something gets me this excited. I am not a child anymore but I love the fact that something can make me feel like one again through sheer joy. It was an incredible experience and one I hope me and the band get to do again.

Can’t really remember anything about Big Chill after that. Other than being told that Gilles Peterson came to have a listen which was lovely of him and seeing some old friends in the audience. You gotta love old friends, especially when they can be bothered to come support you after all this time. Thank you Si, in fact thank you to everyone that came down to see us and to the Big Chill for putting us on. You really did make it a very bloody good day indeed.

Thank you. x
